Opening Ceremony!

What: Opening Ceremony! Say hi to all your new friends! It's a meet 'n' greet!

Where: Just inside the Academic Building
Warnings: None yet. Yet.
[In a wide open hall with banners and a various sundry of celebratory items, the headmaster's rousing speech begins to come to a close.]

In short, you all are here to save our world! There is a threat out there that we must face, but we cannot face it alone. [His demeanor is pleasant, but thinly veiled. His stress is evident in his words, but he is attempting to stay cheerful.] We must do our best to watch over our friends and family and neighbors, no matter who they may be.

We are all responsible for one another. [He lets the silence hang for a moment before letting off and overly cheerful--] HaHa! [Was that a bit forced? Or was it just me?]

Well, guys, it’s time for me t’go, got lotsa stuff to take care of bein’ headmaster and all. But please, get to know one another, go check out classes, and find out where you live on campus! [He gestures to various sections of the room, all labeled with bright colored papers and text.]

I’ll see y’around!

[And with that, the headmaster is off! No, seriously. Watch him go, he’s movin’ fast for such a short guy.]

[M.K. had popped outside for a bit of fresh air. Meeting new people was good and all, but it was exhausting too. Sighing, she stretched, her head tilting upward. It was only then that she saw the figuring up so high. She let out a startled cry.]

Woah! Woah, hey! What are you doing up there!?

[aislingoftheforest]

[Aisling doesn't answer until she's completely at the roof, where she swings up and perches on the very edge. She calls down:] I'm looking for a place to stay.

[barelyknow]

[She cups her hand around her mouth for emphasis.]

You know, I'm pretty sure they already assigned us rooms. I don't think you'll find them up there, though.

[aislingoftheforest]

I don't want a room! [She lets out a huff and then starts scaling down the wall again. She doesn't see anything from there. As soon as she's only a story up, she jumps to the ground and crouches.]

I don't need one. I don't like walls. I'm going to stay in the boh-tan-ickal gardens.

[barelyknow]

[M.K. watches the descent, rather impressed. It looked like something the Leafmen might have done.]

The botanical gardens? Did you live somewhere like that before?

[aislingoftheforest]

Yes. My forest. I'm from Ireland. [With that, she starts marching off, not waiting for a response.]

[barelyknow]

[M.K. stumbles a bit, but follows after her.]

Your forest? What do you mean?

[aislingoftheforest]

I mean what I mean. My forest. Nobody else's, except the animals. [Hey look, the art building.]

[barelyknow]

Do you just mean that you lived there, or is it something more?

[aislingoftheforest]

More than that. It's mine. [She's starting to sound a little annoyed. Well, more annoyed. She stops marching and turns in and oddly graceful movement for someone so small, and puts her hands on her hips.] Some humans live in villages between the trees that I let them make, but it doesn't make the forest theirs.

[barelyknow]

Soooo...

You're like the spirit of the forest?

[aislingoftheforest]

...I guess you could call me that. [Now she just sounds surprised. She shrugs and starts going on, talking over her shoulder.] I've been called a faerie before, too.

[barelyknow]

[Hm. Okay. Not the first spirit of the forest that she's met, but she's so much bigger!]</small. And do you have Leafmen? You know, tiny people who protect the forest?

[aislingoftheforest]

...No. There's just me. And my wolves.

[barelyknow]

What about Boggins. Do you have those?

[aislingoftheforest]

There are all sorts of animals, wolves and deer and kingfishers, and salmon fill the streams. I haven't heard of Boggins though.

[barelyknow]

Creatures that rot and decay the forest?

[aislingoftheforest]

...No. there was something like that underground, once, but it's gone now. Maybe.

[barelyknow]

Maybe?

[aislingoftheforest]

...Yes. The Mist makes me think of it, which is why I came here. To beat it.

Look! The garden. [She sounds relieved to change the subject.]

[barelyknow]

[M.K. nods. It's a similar reason to her own for coming to the academy. She takes a peek into the garden.]

Are you really going to stay here?

[aislingoftheforest]

Why wouldn't I? [...She hasn't actually looked inside the dorms yet, but--] It has to be better than inside walls.

[barelyknow]

Inside isn't so bad. I mean, I totally get wanting to be near the plants, especially if you're really tied to a forest, but there will be other people there, too.

I'm not even sure if the teachers will say that it's okay.

[aislingoftheforest]

People where? Inside the dorm-place or inside the garden? I don't want to be near people unless I need to.

[Aisling just kind of flings herself into the garden.]

I don't care what the teachers say.

[barelyknow]

Inside.

[She shrugs a bit. If Aisling was more comfortable outside, then who was she to argue?]

I think they're just trying to keep up the "we're a team" idea going.
