Opening Ceremony!
Who: Everybody!
What: Opening Ceremony! Say hi to all your new friends! It's a meet 'n' greet!
When: OPENING DAY!
Where: Just inside the Academic Building
Warnings: None yet. Yet.
[In a wide open hall with banners and a various sundry of celebratory items, the headmaster's rousing speech begins to come to a close.]
In short, you all are here to save our world! There is a threat out there that we must face, but we cannot face it alone. [His demeanor is pleasant, but thinly veiled. His stress is evident in his words, but he is attempting to stay cheerful.] We must do our best to watch over our friends and family and neighbors, no matter who they may be.
We are all responsible for one another. [He lets the silence hang for a moment before letting off and overly cheerful--] HaHa! [Was that a bit forced? Or was it just me?]
Well, guys, it’s time for me t’go, got lotsa stuff to take care of bein’ headmaster and all. But please, get to know one another, go check out classes, and find out where you live on campus! [He gestures to various sections of the room, all labeled with bright colored papers and text.]
I’ll see y’around!
[And with that, the headmaster is off!No, seriously. Watch him go, he’s movin’ fast for such a short guy.]
((OOC: WELCOMING CEREMONY LOG! Feel free to create starters here and tag everyone! Don’t be shy. :) You can use prose or action text, whichever you’re more comfortable with.))

[He lifts his hand and rubs his finger under his nose, placing his free one on his hip as he thought. He guessed he did get an awful shock from it some times. He looks up when the Once-ler asks where he's from, lowering his fist from in front of his mouth.]
Berk. It's, ah, part of a small archipelago up to the north.
no subject
Huh. I did not know that was a real place. I guess that's why dragons aren't mainstreamed everywhere as 'real' and you're all isolated from electricity, huh? Learn something new every day.
no subject
[Mostly because of his father's peace treaties with the royalties of both. He pauses when he realizes he hasn't introduced himself.]
Oh, uh, my name's Hiccup.
no subject
sell to] learn about.[ Oh. Right. Introductions. He forgot all about that. He offers a hand out to shake. ]
I'm the Once-ler. Hi. Is your name really 'Hiccup' or is that a nickname?
no subject
[He shrugs, but reaches out to shake the hand with a small sigh.]
It's my real name. It's, ah, a bit of a tradition. I'm the third in my family to have had it as a name.
no subject
[ He pulls his hand back after exactly two firm shakes. Perfected well-practiced business handshake right there ]
So it's Hiccup the third. That's pretty neat. I wish mine had a name tradition. I can't start one either. It's a one-off name.
no subject
[Hiccup cups his free hand over his other, attempting to not make it look like the handshake had been a bit hard. He knew strong handshakes. Firm ones were a new thing. He raises an eyebrow at that.]
I'm guessing 'the Once-ler' is your actual name, not some sort of nickname.
no subject
That's my name. It's a- [ ... ] -- uh... Name. The first name is 'The' and then 'Ler' is the last name but it sounds best all put together. People usually drop the 'the' though, which is fine because it sounds off if people are trying to be professional and put 'Mister' in front of it.
[ He pauses and shakes his head to himself ] Yeah. I have no idea what anyone was thinking. Once-ler, why are you a Once-ler? The world will never know. I don't even think Mom knows and she came up with it. Not that I'm complaining. It sounds cool.
no subject
[He inclines his head with a small shrug, pausing at the name thing. It sounded weird to name your child 'The', but then again he was named after an unwanted throat reflex, so he wasn't really one to talk.]
If it's any consolation, it makes you sound like one of a kind. 'The' is generally reserved for the beginning of titles when it comes to people after all.
no subject
[ He nods and puts on a smile, pointing at himself with a thumb. ]
It does sound important, doesn't it? ...I don't think we can add a 'The' to your name though. 'The Hiccup' just sounds like a really violent hiccup that people observing could mistake for a burp.
no subject
[He can't help the little roll of his eyes.]
I think I'd prefer being known as 'The Hiccup' rather than sharing my name. You have no idea how many times I've heard someone say hi to who I think is me and it's actually just a small sheep. [Pause, then, to clarify;] Uh, it's tradition to call the runt of the tribe a hiccup, even in herds.
no subject
[ He pauses then looks him up and down then reaches a hand out, hovering it over Hiccup's head like he's measuring him. ]
How big were Hiccup one and two?
no subject
Uh, well, it's a bit unsure. My tribe doesn't exactly keep records. My great-great-great grandfather and great grand uncle were probably about my size when they were younger though.
no subject
When they were younger. Mmhm. How big did they get? Runty dogs turn into regular dogs later so your tribe's naming tradition seems kind of mean. I was your size at some point. You'll probably be less runty later. Or you won't! But at least you're tall enough to open doors by yourself.
...Unless it's a tall door.
