Where: Just inside the Academic Building

[In a wide open hall with banners and a various sundry of celebratory items, the headmaster's rousing speech begins to come to a close.]

In short, you all are here to save our world! There is a threat out there that we must face, but we cannot face it alone. [His demeanor is pleasant, but thinly veiled. His stress is evident in his words, but he is attempting to stay cheerful.] We must do our best to watch over our friends and family and neighbors, no matter who they may be.

We are all responsible for one another. [He lets the silence hang for a moment before letting off and overly cheerful--] HaHa! [Was that a bit forced? Or was it just me?]

Well, guys, it’s time for me t’go, got lotsa stuff to take care of bein’ headmaster and all. But please, get to know one another, go check out classes, and find out where you live on campus! [He gestures to various sections of the room, all labeled with bright colored papers and text.]

I’ll see y’around!

[And with that, the headmaster is off! No, seriously. Watch him go, he’s movin’ fast for such a short guy.]

[Aisling is silent, and the look on her face is unsatisfied. She doesn't really like the thought of owing someone.]

[M.K. tilts her head.]

Hey. Are you okay?

I'll be fine.

...What do you think you'll want?

[barelyknow]

[She shrugs.]

Nothing big, probably. [And then she can see that she's bothered by the idea.]

You know what? Never mind. Let's just say it's all a part of our team work, okay?

You're an odd human.

[...She's not trying to be rude, honestly, she just jumps to the conclusion that people will always want something. Who in their right mind would deal with a Fae otherwise? She really has to get used to this teamwork thing.]

[She laughs a bit.]

If you think I'm weird, you should see my dad.

Really? [Pause.] Is he nice too?

Yeah, definitely. A little out there, but really, really nice.

Huh. That's good, a lot of humans aren't.

That sounds like a pretty big overstatement...but I guess I can see where you might be coming from. There's been some pretty terrible humans.

They're usually either rude or cruel. I'm glad you aren't one of them.

[She shrugs.]

It's not very hard to not be a completely awful human-being. Not really sure why so many people have issues with it.

I try to avoid all of them. I'm used to being alone. Here seems strange.

It's strange for everyone, one way or another. We'll figure it out though. The people here can't be bad, or they wouldn't have volunteered to help figure this whole mess out, right?

I'm M.K., by the way. What's your name?

Yeah. My full name is Mary Katherine. I like to go by M.K., though.

Does it mean anything? My name means dream. [She sounds smug for some reason.]

Hm. Well, I think there are a few meanings for Mary. I'm not really sure. And Katherine tends to mean pure or clear, I guess?

Katherine was my mom's name. Mary was one of my grandmothers.

...They're good names.

[barelyknow]

Yeah.

[She looks a little sad for a minute but quickly shrugs it off.]

M.K. is just easier to write down, I guess.

[Aisling noticed that look.] Is there something wrong?

[barelyknow]

No. It's nothing.

[Maybe not nothing, but not something she wants to dump on a kid, forest spirit or not.]
