Opening Ceremony!

[In a wide open hall with banners and a various sundry of celebratory items, the headmaster's rousing speech begins to come to a close.]

In short, you all are here to save our world! There is a threat out there that we must face, but we cannot face it alone. [His demeanor is pleasant, but thinly veiled. His stress is evident in his words, but he is attempting to stay cheerful.] We must do our best to watch over our friends and family and neighbors, no matter who they may be.

We are all responsible for one another. [He lets the silence hang for a moment before letting off and overly cheerful--] HaHa! [Was that a bit forced? Or was it just me?]

Well, guys, it’s time for me t’go, got lotsa stuff to take care of bein’ headmaster and all. But please, get to know one another, go check out classes, and find out where you live on campus! [He gestures to various sections of the room, all labeled with bright colored papers and text.]

I’ll see y’around!

[And with that, the headmaster is off! No, seriously. Watch him go, he’s movin’ fast for such a short guy.]

I suppose a lot of us are feeling a bit overwhelmed. I imagine seeing your own face on so many others is a bit comforting.

Um, well, he's about...this big? [She hesitates before she holds her hands a few inches apart to illustrate her point. Admitting to the Leafmen was still unusual.]

It's school, with the imminent threat of the mist. Boring doesn't really fit in there.

Yeah. With all the people we've got here I'm sure someone will come up with a solution.

[A few months ago the idea of a spirit talking to her would have been impossible, but now it just seemed like something she'd have to get used to. Really, it wasn't all that difficult now.]

So what's your name?

Well something like that would definitely be useful. Where did you hear about it?

...I saw some pages, but he had to run away before he could really show it to me.

...No. I would've brought him, but I don't know where he is. [And she looks pretty forlorn now.]

Hmm. Maybe he'll show up later. Something like that book would really help out I think.

My name is Giselle. I'm one of the teachers here. And you're a student, yes?

As long as we all keep trying, a solution is bound to turn up.

My name is Giselle, by the way. I'll be teaching here.

[Giselle spotted Shifu almost immediately. She hadn't been sure who or what to expect to see at the school along side her, but she was happy to see an animal, when she had seen so few since leaving Andalasia. Though, she was somewhat confused over what he might be. Another mouse of some kind? Or a bear?

Curious, she made her way over to him. She smiled brightly and greeted him.]

Hello!

I hope so. It's been a year since we last met. I don't know how the Book really works, though.

[Long pause.]

I can't read very well.

Hm. I don't know if they have basic reading classes here...

But maybe they do. It wouldn't hurt to ask, right? And if they don't there are plenty of people who already know. Maybe you could get a tutor.

[ For the first time, his expression falters into uncertainty, but Jack is quick to raise his staff and point it at Pitch as a cover-up. He grits his teeth. ]

I don't know. I don't know what you're trying to do, but you're trying to do something, because you don't just help people. Not unless there's something in it for you.

It's what you tried to do to me, and I'm not letting it happen to anybody else.

Why would anyone want to fly there?

[ He nods and puts on a smile, pointing at himself with a thumb. ]

It does sound important, doesn't it? ...I don't think we can add a 'The' to your name though. 'The Hiccup' just sounds like a really violent hiccup that people observing could mistake for a burp.

[Shifu might not know what he means by “Easter”, but the raccoon comment isn’t a new one. He sighs quietly, rolling up his papers into a tube. If he wasn’t someone who had recently achieved inner peace, he might consider smacking the boy on the head with it... But he’s a changed panda, of course.
He turns to Jack, raising a brow. He can guess by the lack of uniform that he isn’t one for authority. Wonderful.]

I’m not a raccoon. I am a red panda.

[Shifu looks around over his shoulder, like he doesn’t initially believe that such a happy greeting could be directed at him. He turns back to Giselle and smiles, bowing to her in return.]

Good afternoon. Are you also a member of the faculty here?

Oh I don't know...treaties, keeping peace between the tribes. Yeah, it's kind of an important thing.

[He can't help the little roll of his eyes.]

I think I'd prefer being known as 'The Hiccup' rather than sharing my name. You have no idea how many times I've heard someone say hi to who I think is me and it's actually just a small sheep. [Pause, then, to clarify;] Uh, it's tradition to call the runt of the tribe a hiccup, even in herds.

Hmmmm, yeah. I guess that'd be pretty important.

[ He pauses then looks him up and down then reaches a hand out, hovering it over Hiccup's head like he's measuring him. ]

How big were Hiccup one and two?

[barelyknow]

[Aaaaand more laughing.]

No. No. He's...well, they call themselves Leafmen. They're a tiny civilization of people who protect the forest.

[She politely returns his bow with a curtsy. Oh, and she's so glad he could talk. The animals in New York had worried her.]

Yes, that's right. My name is Giselle. I'll be teaching cooking and sewing.

I see.. But you know, this academy is here to help you. These are dark times, and we should be working together.. I only ask that you try.

[He sighs bemusedly at that. That's the biggest culture shock he's had to deal with so far.] It seems that most animals don't.. I never realized we were so uncommon!

[Oh hey, remember those gardens? They aren't far up ahead.] Ah, here we are.

An essential subject! [And one that isn't respected nearly enough. It's good to know that the kids will be learning from such a passionate teacher.]
